A Live Music Takeover: Porch Fest Apalach 2021
By Forgotten Coast Web Team | September 22, 2021
It’s time to do Porch Fest Apalach again! If you missed the inaugural Porch Fest Apalach last year, there is still time to make plans to attend this year on Saturday, October 2. Apalachicola’s downtown and historic district comes alive with music for this one-day local music and community celebration.
What is Porch Fest Apalach?
Porch Fest Apalach is a live music takeover of downtown Apalachicola and the surrounding neighborhoods. From 11 am until 7 pm, dozens of bands perform on porches and outdoor stages throughout the beautiful downtown of Apalachicola. Proceeds of this year’s Porch Fest Apalach will support the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department. For more information about specific bands, check out the Porch Fest Apalach Facebook page.
How does this work?
The kick-off begins at 11 am at Lafayette Park, located along the Bayfront in historic Apalachicola, where participants will receive a map with the lineup of porch bands. (Or you can download one here.) Over 20 bands perform in one-hour slots on porches and stages within the boundaries of the event, and the audience moves from location to location as the event progresses. Attendees are encouraged to bring their chairs, blankets, coolers, drinks, and money for tipping musicians, as they are all donating their time for this event. There will also be limited edition t-shirts and posters for sale.
Will there be food?
This year, the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department will be at Lafayette Park all day serving barbecue and burgers!
Is Porch Fest Apalach walkable? And is it pet and child-friendly?
Yes! Walk it, bike it, golf cart it, or drive it. The entire route is only a few blocks long, and the downtown stages are in an area that will be blocked off to make it pedestrian, bicycle, child, and (leashed) pet friendly.
Make plans to join in this fun and entertaining grassroots music festival supporting Apalachicola’s Volunteer Fire Department!
