Apalachicola Oyster Cook-Off

Apalachicola’s annual Oyster Cook-Off returns on January 14 in downtown Historic Apalachicola at Riverfront Park. The event features oysters galore, shrimp, smoked mullet, hot dogs, hamburgers, local beer, live music, kids’ activities, dancing performances, and a 5K run! Enter your best recipe and be a contestant in the oyster cook-off or just come out and enjoy a day of wonderful food, refreshments, and music. Well-mannered pets are welcomed on a leash. All proceeds benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department.
8:00 a.m. – Half-Shell Hustle 5K Run (Runners registration @ 7 am)
12-5 pm – Cook-off (no gate entrance fee)-Art Auction continues, food and refreshments available for purchase throughout the day
Silent Auction – this auction, which showcases unique oyster-related art and items, will be available throughout the day on Saturday. There is also a buy-it-now option, so be sure to arrive early to snag the best of the best!
1 pm – Dance Class Performance (you don’t want to miss the Fireman dance!)
2 pm – Live Band starts
2 pm – Judging begins
3 pm – Winners announced

OFFICIAL RULES
1) Print name, address, telephone number, and email address (if applicable) on 8½” X 11” paper. We would love to have your recipe for us to include in a future cookbook. If you would like to include your recipe type or print your original recipe on a different 8½” X 11” paper. List all ingredients and provide full instructions. If you do give us your recipe they become the property of the Oyster Cook-off. Entry constitutes permission to edit, modify, adapt, publish, or otherwise use recipes without further compensation.
2) Finalists will provide all ingredients, mixing, cooking utensils, and heat source (no electricity available). Fresh oysters will be provided.
3) Fresh oysters must be the predominant part of the dish. The recipe must use a minimum of 1 pint of oysters or 1 dozen fresh oysters in the shell.
4) Contestants are limited to 2-hour prep and cooking of the recipe.
5) Judging is based on originality, the predominance of oysters, taste, and presentation.
6) Three finalists will be selected.
7) Contest is open to everyone.
The top 3 finalists will receive a trophy.
