Eastpoint: Summer Reading Kick-Off Party

The Franklin County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program sets sail with kick off parties at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 7th at the Eastpoint branch and on Saturday, June 8th at the Carrabelle branch. At the kick off parties, participants can learn about activities, register for summer reading events, and enjoy a delicious ice cream social.

Both library branches will have fun activities for both kids and adults during the Summer Reading Program under the theme of “Adventure Begins At Your Library”, which will feature the outdoors. Library programs are free and open to the public and participants do not need a library card to participate. During the Summer Reading Program, there will be reading logs, prizes and incentives for all ages (including adults) and performances by Animal Tales and Mr. Richard.

Summer Reading is an annual program that brings children, teens, and families into local public libraries for reading and activities. The benefits to readers in a summer reading program include:
+ encouragement that reading become a lifelong habit
+ reluctant readers can be drawn in by the activities
+ reading over the summer helps children keep their skills up
+ the program can generate interest in the library and books
+ And it being summer, the program can just be good fun and provide an opportunity for family time.
